After School & Summer Camp Programs
The MFM program, "Songs and Instruments of Latin America," is designed to promote cultural awareness by encouraging children to learn about and appreciate the rich traditions and indigenous instruments of Latin American music. Children sing, move, dance, and play instruments. Songs are sung in both English and Spanish.
By the end of this eight-week course, children are able to move their bodies and use body percussion. They can sing and play in unison, discriminate between loud and soft sounds, and know the names of percussion instruments, including the guiro, ocarinas, maracas, claves, and teponaxtle.
This program is available for after-school sites and summer camps. It can be tailored to meet your particular needs. Please call the MFM office (650-237-9130) for further information.
The instructor for this program is Victor Hugo Santos.
Victor grew up in Mexico City and was educated at the Escuela Superior de Musica (of the
Institute de Bellas Artes and the Escuela Libre de Musica). Victor enjoys playing a variety
of guitars including the charango, cuatro, Cuban three, mandolin, and viheula and writing songs
especially for children. He is the founder and director of Grupo Germinal, a musical group that
plays traditional Latin American music. He also produces a TV show on KMVT that highlights new
Latin American musicians.
