Post Training:

Once trained, volunteers are placed as MFM Interns in elementary schools throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. Interns teach in a K-3 grade classroom for a minimum of one half-hour per week for the remainder of the school year. Every effort is made to place volunteers in schools that meet their individual preferences.

Though MFM Interns are required to teach only one half-hour class per week, it is recommended they teach two classes per week (usually scheduled back-to-back) to maximize their experience.

MFM Interns learn what it is like to work with children in a classroom setting. They gain invaluable ideas, tips and support from other MFM docents and staff. They continue to grow and learn while gaining important confidence and expertise.

After satisfactorily completing the classroom internship, MFM Interns are invited to become MFM Docents and to teach the following full academic year. Many docents continue in this role for years. There are docents in the MFM community who have been teaching music in the classroom for 20 years or longer.
