Training Requirements and Commitment
Requirements
In order to become a Music For Minors Docent, you must complete the MFM Training and intern in a classroom for the remainder of the current school year. The MFM Training is the cornerstone of the In-School Docent Program and a prerequisite of classroom placement.
You do not need a musical or educational background to take MFM Training. We ask only that you:
- Be able to sing on pitch
- Like working with groups of children
- Have a lot of enthusiasm
- Have a willingness to learn
Commitment
Trainees are required to complete the 34-hour training course in order to be placed in a classroom.
We understand that the training is a big commitment but it is critically important. We want to ensure that every MFM Docent has the tools needed to teach music in a classroom with confidence, enthusiasm, and expertise.
Training is offered exclusively through MFM and has something for everyone. Whether you are a classroom teacher, musician, parent with a limited musical background, or a working or retired professional, this course will expand your skills and open your eyes to new ideas. Equally important, it will help you develop a community of peers who are passionate about music.
If you are interested in taking the MFM Training, please contact us at (650) 237-9130, or by email for more information, or send in a Volunteer Application.
