About Music for Minors
Transforming children’s lives through music education since 1976
Overview
Founded in 1976, Music for Minors (MFM) is a nonprofit dedicated to arts education and nurturing in children a lifelong love of music. For nearly five decades, we’ve been a steadfast advocate for music education, transforming the lives of children in the Bay Area. We partner with Bay Area schools to ensure all children — regardless of resources — have access to high-quality music education.
By providing culturally relevant, standards-based music education aligned with the California Visual and Performing Arts Standards and the National Core Arts Standards, our programs inspire creativity, confidence, and community, fostering a lifelong love of music.
MFM currently partners with schools and districts, in San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Contra Costa counties to reach over 20,000 students annually in preschool and TK-5, with a focus on providing equitable access to the arts. Nearly 50% of its services are dedicated to under-resourced communities, where MFM often serves as the only source of music instruction.
MFM funds its programs through program fees from schools, individual donors, government and institutional funders.
