Board Membership
As the community’s trustees of this unique educational organization, the Music For Minors Board of Directors is responsible for the governance and future prospects of the organization.
The Board is a wonderful combination of parents, community members, docents, musicians and music enthusiasts who govern over the objectives, strategic planning and vision of the organization.
Music For Minors board members are among a community of peers who share a passion for bringing music education into the lives of children who might otherwise not experience it. They feel a sense of pride at belonging to an organization that is delivering such a high quality, comprehensive, hands-on music education program to children. MFM board members work with professionals in the field and experience much personal growth. Most importantly, MFM board members are helping to leave a legacy of music that will endure for generations to come.
Becoming A Board Member
Prospective board members are asked to first complete a Board Application (PDF). Following receipt of the application, prospective board members are then asked to attend three board meetings to meet the board, see how it runs, and to find out if there is a “good fit.” After these initial meetings, and if the application requirements are met, the applicant is voted into membership by a quorum of the Board.
Commitment of Board Membership
Board members bring their personal strengths to the Board and are asked to:
- Serve a minimum of a two-year term
- Serve on a minimum of one committee
- Be familiar with the programs and by-laws
- Participate in the Annual Retreat
- Be responsible for the health, well-being and direction of the organization
- Be responsible for the prudent operation of the organization
- Make a personal annual financial and/or an in-kind contribution to MFM
- Attend bi-monthly board meetings (six per year)
- Participate in special events
- Provide a personal network to further the mission of MFM
